World Karate Day Sparks Enthusiasm in Mysuru
On June 22, 2025, the city of Mysuru came alive with the spirited celebration of World Karate Day, drawing hundreds of participants, predominantly young martial artists eager to showcase their skills. The Mysuru Karate Association hosted the event at the Mysore University Sports Pavilion, turning it into a vibrant display of discipline and self-defense.
Leaders Emphasize the Importance of Karate for Youth
The ceremony was inaugurated by MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar alongside Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Deve Gowda, both underscoring the value of karate beyond its physical benefits. Mr. Deve Gowda urged students to integrate martial arts like karate alongside their academic pursuits, highlighting its role in empowering youth against rising antisocial behavior.
“In times when hooliganism threatens our communities, mastering self-defense methods provides not just protection but also cultivates discipline and resilience,” he remarked. He also stressed that physical education, including sports and martial arts, must be woven into the fabric of formal education, balancing arts, culture, and academics.
Building Stronger Communities Through Martial Arts
MLA Deve Gowda further advocated for the incorporation of karate competitions during the renowned Dasara festivities as a means to popularize and encourage the martial art among younger generations.
He also commended MP Yaduveer Wadiyar for shattering skepticism about his political commitment. “Despite doubts about a royal stepping into public service, he actively engages with constituents across Mysuru and Kodagu and collaborates effectively with state and central governments—earning widespread respect for his dedication,” Deve Gowda noted.
Distinguished Guests and Demonstrations Highlight the Event
The day's proceedings were enhanced by a captivating karate demonstration featuring participants' skill and discipline. Among the dignitaries present were C. Venkatesh, Director of Physical Education at the University of Mysore, and S. Sunil Kumar, President of the Mysuru Karate Association.
Altogether, World Karate Day in Mysuru celebrated more than just a martial art—it reinforced community spirit, self-empowerment, and the holistic development of youth.
