Following the disappearance of three Indian nationals in Tehran, the Iranian Embassy in India has issued a strong warning advising Indian citizens to exercise caution and avoid being misled by unauthorized travel agents.
On May 29, 2025, the Iranian Embassy posted on its official social media account, emphasizing that Indian citizens should not fall victim to "promises of unauthorised individuals or illegal Indian agencies offering travel to other countries." The embassy clarified that the case involving the missing individuals is under active investigation by the Consular Affairs Department of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with relevant judicial authorities. Additionally, the Indian Embassy in Tehran is being kept informed of developments through regular communication with Iranian officials.
Official statements did not disclose the identities of the missing individuals, but reports from credible news outlets have identified them as Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur, all located in the Indian state of Punjab. The trio reportedly went missing on May 1 shortly after arriving in Tehran.
Further details emerged from a report by India Today, which included statements from Hushanpreet Singh’s mother. She alleged that her son was deceived by agents who promised him employment in Australia under a work permit. Instead, Hushanpreet was taken to Iran under the guise of a temporary stay, where he was subsequently abducted. The abductors purportedly sent images and videos showing the three men with tied hands and displaying signs of physical abuse, along with demands for ransom to secure their release.
Indian authorities have taken note of the situation and are reportedly engaging with Iranian officials to resolve the matter. The Iranian Embassy’s advisory underscores the risks associated with illegal migration facilitators and the importance of verifying travel arrangements through authorized channels.
