Washington, May 29, 2025: Israel has approved the latest ceasefire proposal for Gaza put forward by the United States, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt announced on Thursday. This endorsement came ahead of the proposal being formally sent to the Palestinian group Hamas.
Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff presented the ceasefire plan to Hamas following Israel's approval. "Discussions are ongoing, and we remain hopeful that a ceasefire in Gaza will be achieved soon, enabling the safe return of all hostages," she said during a briefing.
When asked if Hamas had accepted the proposal, Leavitt responded, "Not to my knowledge." The situation remains fluid as diplomatic efforts continue to reach a resolution.
This development underscores ongoing efforts by the US administration to broker peace amidst escalating tensions in Gaza.
