The protests began on June 6, fueled by federal immigration enforcement actions targeting undocumented migrants in Los Angeles, a city known for its large Latino population and progressive local leadership. While many demonstrations have remained peaceful, scattered incidents of violence have provided a rationale for an unprecedented federal response involving 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines.

Unmoved by the growing protests, President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to intensify deportation efforts nationwide, including in Los Angeles. He defended Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, condemning the violence and harassment they have faced and urging them to carry out their duties with full vigor.
