The investigation took a dramatic turn after the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was discovered on June 2 near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills. Sonam disappeared soon after, sparking a tense search. Authorities later tracked her to Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered at a local police station late Sunday night.
According to Sonam’s account, she was not involved in the murder but was forcibly taken away and abandoned far from Meghalaya. She alleges that after the abduction, she managed to contact her brother for assistance from Ghazipur.

During a press briefing, Meghalaya police reiterated their stance that Sonam is the principal accused who orchestrated the murder by hiring hitmen. So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case:
- Akash Rajput, 19, from Lalitpur
- Vishal Singh Chauhan, 22, from Indore
- Raj Singh Kushwaha, 21, from Indore
- An unidentified suspect from Sagar district
- Another detainee from Nandgarh
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated these individuals are implicated in the murder that took place on May 23. Authorities are pursuing further inquiries to unravel every detail surrounding this case.
