Four Jaish Terrorists Trapped Amid Intense Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur
Security forces have successfully cornered four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists in a dense forest region of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, officials confirmed. The intense operation, code-named Operation Bihali, is currently underway despite adverse weather conditions marked by heavy rain and thick fog, which have made the operation considerably challenging.
Details of the Ongoing Operation
The operation was initiated based on credible intelligence. A coordinated effort between the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and Jammu & Kashmir Police led to the joint assault in the Bihali area of Basantgarh. The army confirmed on social media that contact with the terrorists has been established and that the mission remains active.
"Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched in the Bihali area of Basantgarh. Contact has been established with the terrorists. The operation is ongoing," the White Knight Corps stated.
Heightened Security Ahead of Amarnath Yatra
This operation comes just days before the annual Amarnath pilgrimage kicks off on July 3, drawing thousands of devotees to the holy cave shrine. With the yatra concluding on August 9, security agencies have intensified their efforts to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
The crackdown follows a surge in security measures across the region after the fatal terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam. In that attack, Pakistan-backed militants targeted a meadow crowded with tourists, resulting in the deaths of 25 pilgrims and one local resident.
Security Preparedness and Future Outlook
Inspector General of Police for Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, confirmed, "The encounter began early this morning and the operation continues to this hour."
In anticipation of the pilgrimage, security forces recently held a joint mock drill at the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district. This exercise was designed to strengthen readiness and counter any potential threats during the high-profile event.
As operations continue in the rugged terrain of Udhampur, authorities remain vigilant to safeguard both the region’s stability and the wellbeing of the thousands of pilgrims expected over the coming weeks.
