Ukraine and Russia Agree on Prisoner of War List Exchange
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and Russia agreed to exchange prisoner of war (POW) lists this week as part of a planned swap. The agreement was reached during talks held in Istanbul.
Details of the POW Exchange Agreement
Zelenskyy revealed that both sides will provide lists containing 1,000 prisoners each, with an option to include up to an additional 200 POWs.
Additionally, both countries consented to return the remains of fallen service members, although Zelenskyy noted that this process requires meticulous preparation to ensure dignity and accuracy.
Return of Ukrainian Children from Russia
In a significant humanitarian appeal, Ukrainian negotiators presented the Russian side with a list of nearly 400 children whom Ukraine is seeking to bring home. However, Russia has agreed to facilitate the return of only 10 children at this stage.
Recent Ukrainian Military Operation Strengthens Confidence
Besides diplomatic progress, Zelenskyy highlighted a recent intelligence operation codenamed “Spider’s Web”, conducted on the previous Sunday. In this operation, drones concealed within wooden sheds were used to attack Russian military airfields, demonstrating Ukraine’s continued capability to carry out strategic actions amid the conflict.
This operation has bolstered the confidence of Ukraine’s international partners in the country’s resilience and ongoing efforts in the war against the Russian invasion.
