Amazon Extends Prime Day Sale to Four Full Days
Amazon is turning up the heat on its annual Prime Day sale by expanding the event to last four days this year. The shopping extravaganza will kick off at 12:01 a.m. PT on July 8 and run through July 11, marking the longest stretch since the event’s inception.
Introducing Daily Themed Deal Drops
In a new twist, Amazon is introducing daily themed “deal drops” during the extended Prime Day, offering fresh discounts each day that will be available only while supplies last. This strategy aims to create a sense of urgency and excitement, encouraging shoppers to check back frequently for limited-time offers.
Prime Day’s Role in Boosting Amazon’s Membership
Since launching Prime Day in 2015, Amazon has used this mid-year sale event to attract new subscribers to its loyalty program, which costs $139 per year. The sales event also helps promote Amazon’s own products and services while providing a crucial revenue boost during a typically slower part of the retail calendar.
Originally a 24-hour event, Prime Day was expanded to two days in recent years and now, with this move, it stretches across nearly a full weekend. Additionally, Amazon has introduced a second Prime Day typically held in the fall, further amplifying its sales opportunities.
Impact Beyond Amazon
Prime Day isn’t just big for Amazon—it has become a major sales driver for other retailers too. Many competitors now run rival discount events during the same time frame, leveraging the shopping frenzy to attract bargain hunters.
