At least five people were injured in a shooting incident at the Brass Mill Center mall in Waterbury, Connecticut, on Tuesday evening. Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo reported that officers responded to disturbance reports at approximately 4:40 p.m.
All victims were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment, though the police have not disclosed the severity of their injuries. Authorities confirmed that there is no immediate threat to the public.
Chief Spagnolo stated that the suspect, armed with a semiautomatic pistol, was known to the victims, and that the shooting resulted from a dispute that quickly escalated. There have been no fatalities reported, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
Law enforcement agencies, including federal and state partners, are currently conducting a thorough investigation inside the mall, inspecting stores for evidence. The Brass Mill Center is located near Interstate 84, roughly 30 miles southwest of Hartford.
Police have urged the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency response efforts and ensure public safety.
