Google Commemorates Ahmedabad Air India Crash Tragedy
In a solemn tribute, Google has displayed a black ribbon on its search homepage to honor the victims of the recent Air India plane crash near Ahmedabad. This symbolic gesture is prominently positioned just below the search bar, serving as a poignant reminder of the lives lost in the devastating accident.
A Tragic Day in Ahmedabad
The ill-fated flight, AI171, bound for London, carried 242 passengers and crew members. Shortly after takeoff on Thursday, the Boeing 737 Dreamliner tragically crashed into a medical college complex near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and erupted into flames.
The disaster claimed the lives of 241 people onboard, with a single survivor currently receiving medical treatment. The passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.
The Scale of the Catastrophe
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the aircraft rapidly lose altitude before engulfing in a fiery blaze that sent thick black smoke billowing skyward. The twin-engine wide-body jet crashed into the grounds of the city civil hospital and BJ Medical College, amplifying the tragedy.
Sadly, the incident also resulted in fatalities on the ground, making it one of the worst aviation disasters in the country's recent history.
