The Indian Army has been actively participating in Khaan Quest 2025, a prestigious multinational military exercise held at the Five Hills Training Area near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Running from June 14 to June 28, this year’s event marks the 22nd iteration of Khaan Quest and brings together troops from 24 nations to train under the framework of United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Fostering International Military Collaboration

Co-hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces alongside the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Khaan Quest aims to enhance interoperability among participant countries. The exercises focus keenly on counter-IED tactics, civil-military coordination, and other critical capabilities essential for successful peacekeeping missions.

This participation underscores India’s steady commitment to global peace and security while simultaneously strengthening defense ties with Mongolia, building on cooperation witnessed during the recent Nomadic Elephant 2025 drill.

Highlighting the Indian Contingent’s Performance and Diversity

Comprising 40 personnel primarily from a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, along with representatives from various arms and services, the Indian contingent proudly includes a woman officer and two women soldiers—testifying to the army’s progressive approach toward gender inclusivity.

On June 18, the Indian team distinguished itself with the fastest completion time across all nations, excelling in physically demanding challenges such as sandbag carries and tire flips. These rigorous tasks not only tested endurance but also fostered camaraderie among troops from different countries.

In a video shared during the exercise, an Indian Army officer expressed honor in participating, noting that Khaan Quest serves as a unique platform where militaries worldwide unite to train for humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. With extensive experience in United Nations peacekeeping, India continues to be a vital contributor to these global efforts.

Khaan Quest: A Legacy of Peace and Cooperation

Originated in 2003 as a bilateral exercise between Mongolia and the United States, Khaan Quest expanded into a multinational peacekeeping drill by 2006. The annual event cultivates military readiness and collaboration under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, preparing forces to function effectively in complex multinational operations.

The previous edition was conducted from July 27 to August 9, 2024, also in Mongolia, further cementing the exercise’s status as a cornerstone for peacekeeping preparedness across participating nations.

Looking Ahead

Exercise Khaan Quest 2025 not only highlights the growing importance of multilateral military cooperation but also showcases the Indian Army's ongoing dedication to fostering regional and international stability. Through shared training and collaboration, participating countries strengthen their collective ability to tackle global security challenges.
