Social media buzzed after a viral video surfaced showing a person being restrained on the ground by two individuals at the airport. While the clip quickly gained attention, the individual's nationality was not definitively established, sparking speculation and concern within the Indian community.

In response to these viral claims, the Indian Consulate took to their official social media channels to clarify the situation. They stated, "We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard. The Consulate remains ever committed to the welfare of Indian Nationals."

In a related briefing earlier this year, India's Ministry of External Affairs disclosed that approximately 1,080 Indian nationals had been deported from the U.S. since January 2025. Notably, about 62% of these individuals returned via commercial flights.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the close collaboration between both nations on migration matters, saying, "We take back Indian nationals who are either in illegal status or traveling illegally once we get the necessary information about them."

Concerns have also arisen about updated U.S. guidelines affecting Student and Exchange Visitor visa applicants. Addressing these apprehensions, the Ministry assured that the welfare of Indian students studying abroad remains a top priority.
Jaiswal added, "While visa issuance is a sovereign matter, we hope Indian students' applications are assessed fairly so they can commence their academic programs without delay."
