- Just a week before, 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa, a student at Mohawk College in Hamilton, was tragically killed by a stray bullet while waiting at a bus stop. The police confirmed she was caught in crossfire between two vehicles—a devastating loss for her community.
- Earlier in April, 27-year-old Dharmesh Kathireeya from Gujarat, then working in Rockland, Ontario, was fatally stabbed by a neighbour in an incident reportedly accompanied by racial slurs. His employer temporarily closed the Milano Pizza Rockland branch in his memory.
