Karachi Businessman Detained Following Assault on Hindu Siblings
A prominent media entrepreneur based in Karachi has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a Hindu man and his sister following a minor traffic mishap. The incident sparked widespread outrage after video footage of the attack circulated on social media platforms.
Details of the Incident
The altercation occurred on Sunday in the Defence Society Ittehad area. The victim, identified as Sudhair Dhun Raj, was riding a motorcycle along with his sister Kalpana, who works at a beauty parlour. While en route to pick up their youngest sibling, Sudhair’s motorcycle came into contact with the car owned by the accused, Salman Farooq.
Despite immediate apologies from Sudhair and pleaded mercy by Kalpana, Salman Farooq and his armed bodyguards reportedly subjected them to a violent assault. Eyewitness Muhammad Saleem reported the incident to the police, which prompted official action.
Legal Actions and Charges
Following the viral spread of the attack video, police arrested Salman Farooq and his associates late Monday. The First Information Report (FIR) filed against them includes multiple serious charges:
- Physical assault
- Issuing death threats
- Harassment of a woman
- Verbal abuse
The victims, originally hesitant to come forward, found the courage to report the assault after the FIR was lodged based on eyewitness testimony. The siblings hail from Ranchore Lines, a low-income neighbourhood in Karachi.
