Russia Signals Restart of Russia-India-China Trilateral Talks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced plans to revive the long-dormant Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral dialogue, highlighting a notable de-escalation in tensions between India and China.
An Opportunity Born from Eased Border Strains
Speaking at the Forum of the Future-2050, Lavrov emphasized that the RIC platform, which had been largely inactive since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, could once again serve as a vital mechanism for shaping broader Eurasian cooperation. He described it as a pivotal first step toward constructing a multi-polar geopolitical architecture spanning the continent.
Diplomatic Channels Reopening
Lavrov revealed ongoing discussions with Indian and Chinese foreign ministers aiming to restart official meetings under the RIC framework. "We have not convened at the foreign minister level for several years, but engagement with both my Chinese and Indian counterparts is underway," he shared.
The Bigger Picture: Pan-Continental Integration
The Russian diplomat underscored the roles of Russia and China as key drivers in continental integration efforts. He expressed optimism that the significant reduction in India-China border tensions and stabilization of their dialogue creates fertile ground to rebuild the trilateral cooperation.
“Resuming this dialogue will mark a major stride in advancing Eurasian continental processes,” Lavrov stated. The two-day forum, inspired by the Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin and attracting a younger audience, also counted notable attendees like Erol Musk, father of Elon Musk.
Looking Ahead
Renewed RIC talks could revitalize strategic collaboration in Asia and reshape the geopolitical dynamics in the region. Observers are watching closely as efforts progress to bring together these three influential powers.
