PM Modi Emphasizes Dialogue to Resolve Conflicts in Europe and Asia
During his first official visit to Croatia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as the only path to peace, firmly stating that conflicts cannot be resolved on battlefields, whether in Europe or Asia.
Respecting Sovereignty for Global Stability
Addressing a joint press conference with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, PM Modi underscored the critical role of respecting territorial integrity and national sovereignty as foundations for global stability. He said, "Respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of any country is essential," reinforcing the principle as a cornerstone of peaceful coexistence.
Condemning Terrorism and Strengthening Democratic Values
PM Modi also condemned terrorism, calling it an enemy of humanity that contradicts democratic ideals. He highlighted the shared democratic values binding India and Croatia, including pluralism, rule of law, and equality. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Croatia for its condolences following the terror attack in India on April 22.
Building Long-Term Defence Cooperation
Both leaders unveiled plans for a long-term Defence Cooperation Plan aimed at enhancing military collaboration through training programs, exchanges, and joint ventures between their defense industries. This new initiative is poised to deepen strategic ties and foster security cooperation.
Expanding Economic and Technological Partnerships
PM Modi pointed out the strong complementarities between India’s and Croatia’s economies, particularly in sectors like pharmaceutical production, agriculture, information technology, clean technologies, digital innovation, renewable energy, and semiconductors. These areas present ample opportunities for mutual growth and investment.
Cultural Connect Through Yoga and Shared Leadership
Highlighting cultural diplomacy, the Prime Minister noted the growing popularity of yoga in Croatia and expressed confidence that the country would enthusiastically participate in International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. PM Modi also shared that this is the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, marking a historic moment strengthening people-to-people ties.
Both leaders shared that it is remarkable that they were entrusted with leadership roles by their respective peoples for a third consecutive term, symbolizing continuity and deeper cooperation.
Warm Reception and Diplomatic Exchange
Following a ceremonial welcome at Zagreb’s official residence, Banski Dvori, the Prime Ministers exchanged gifts and signed a guestbook, underscoring the warmth and significance of this strengthened bilateral relationship.
Croatian Prime Minister Plenković remarked on the visit’s reflection of the growing strength and importance of ties between Croatia and India, looking forward to further collaboration.
