Washington, D.C. – Elon Musk has officially stepped down from his role as chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency focused on reducing wasteful government spending and improving bureaucratic efficiency. Despite leaving his post, Musk confirmed he will continue to serve as a friend and adviser to President Donald Trump.
During a farewell press conference, Musk described his leadership at DOGE as a limited-term commitment. He emphasized that the department’s mission—and its growing influence on government operations—will persist and expand. "This is not the end of DOGE but rather the beginning," Musk stated. He compared the ethos of DOGE to a "way of life," forecasting that it will eventually lead to government savings exceeding one trillion dollars.
Highlighting the agency’s performance during his tenure, Musk revealed that DOGE has already projected over $160 billion in savings for fiscal years 2025–26, with expectations to surpass $200 billion soon. He praised the team's ongoing work and committed to continued engagement as an adviser to the administration.
President Trump expressed high regard for Musk's efforts, describing his contributions as "historic" and characterizing their relationship as "truly special." Musk, who wore a jacket over a T-shirt labeled "The DOGE-Father" at the event, acknowledged his priorities will now shift more fully toward his private enterprises, including SpaceX and Tesla.
Despite stepping down, Musk assured that he will maintain a connection with the department and the Oval Office, continuing to support the government’s drive toward enhanced efficiency.
