Elon Musk has announced his resignation as the chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a government initiative focused on reducing wasteful spending, eliminating fraud, and streamlining bureaucracy to save American taxpayers billions of dollars. Despite stepping down, Musk affirmed his continued support as a friend and adviser to former President Donald Trump.
Addressing the press during a farewell event, Musk emphasized that his role at DOGE was always intended to be temporary, allowing him to redirect his attention to his private ventures, including SpaceX and Tesla. "My time as a special government appointee necessarily had to end at some point," he said. "The DOGE team will only grow stronger over time, and their impact on government efficiency will continue to expand."
During his tenure, Musk highlighted significant fiscal achievements under DOGE’s leadership, citing projected savings surpassing $160 billion for the fiscal year 2025-26, with expectations to exceed $200 billion soon. He compared the philosophy underlying DOGE’s work to a transformative way of life aimed at delivering sustained government savings.
President Trump praised Musk’s accomplishments and described their relationship as "truly special," acknowledging the historic nature of Musk’s contributions to government reform. Musk assured continued involvement by stating he would monitor DOGE’s progress and remain available to advise the administration as needed.
Clad in a jacket over a T-shirt bearing the slogan "The DOGE-Father," Musk concluded his remarks by expressing optimism about the future of DOGE, underscoring that the initiative marks not an end but a new beginning in governmental efficiency efforts.
