Five Turkish nationals appeared in court in Thessaloniki, Greece, Thursday, after a series of police raids connected to a shooting incident involving suspected Greek intelligence officers. The incident unfolded at a gas station in northern Thessaloniki where unidentified assailants fired upon officers conducting surveillance.
Authorities confirmed that three of the individuals were sentenced to five months in prison on unrelated drug charges. The remaining two suspects were released from formal charges but remain detained for further questioning.
Although state media reported that the targeted officers belonged to Greece's National Intelligence Service, officials have not officially disclosed their identities. Notably, no injuries were reported from the shooting.
This event occurs amid an ongoing rise in violent incidents linked to Turkish organized crime groups operating in Greece over the past two years. Law enforcement efforts continue as the country works to address gang-related violence, including assassinations and shooting episodes.
