The Indian Embassy in Tehran has confirmed that three Indian nationals are missing in Iran. The men, identified as Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur, went missing shortly after arriving in Tehran on May 1, 2025.
According to the embassy, the families of the missing men have informed officials about their relatives' disappearance. The embassy has communicated with Iranian authorities, urging an urgent search and ensuring the safety of the three men. The families are being kept regularly updated on the developments.
Reports indicate that the men were promised passage to Australia through the Dubai-Iran route by an agent based in Punjab. The agent assured them of accommodation in Iran. However, after landing in Tehran, the men were reportedly kidnapped. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
Families received a disturbing video showing the men bound with yellow ropes and bleeding from their arms. The kidnappers also threatened to kill them if the ransom was not paid. The victims communicated with their families using the kidnappers' phones, but contact was lost after May 11.
The Punjab police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the agent, who is now reportedly missing, on May 16. The embassy and police are continuing efforts to locate the missing individuals and bring them to safety.
