Three Indian nationals from Punjab have gone missing in Iran, with the Indian Embassy in Tehran actively engaged in efforts to locate them and ensure their safety.
The individuals have been identified as Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur. They disappeared shortly after arriving in Tehran on May 1, 2025.
According to a statement from the Embassy of India, the families reported the disappearance and the Embassy has immediately raised the issue with Iranian authorities, emphasizing the urgent need to trace their whereabouts and safeguard them. The Embassy is also maintaining regular communication with the families to provide updates on the ongoing efforts.
Details from the families indicate that the men were promised assistance by an agent in Punjab who assured they would be sent to Australia through a route involving Dubai and Iran, with accommodation arranged in Iran. However, upon arrival in Iran, the men were reportedly abducted.
Evidence shared by the families includes a distressing video sent by the kidnappers showing the men bound with yellow ropes and bleeding from their arms. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore, threatening to kill them if the payment is not made.
Until May 11, the men were able to communicate briefly with their families via phones controlled by the kidnappers, but contact has since been lost.
Authorities have noted that the agent responsible for facilitating their travel from Hoshiarpur is currently missing. A formal First Information Report (FIR) was filed against this agent on May 16, 2025.
