India is actively investigating the possible involvement of Pakistan and its intelligence agency in the kidnapping of three Indian nationals in Iran. This inquiry gained momentum after the families of the missing individuals received ransom calls from a Pakistani phone number.
The three abducted men hail from Punjab’s Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, and SBS Nagar districts. Identified as Hushanpreet Singh (Sangrur), Jaspal Singh (SBS Nagar), and Amritpal Singh (Hoshiarpur), they reportedly disappeared after arriving in Tehran on May 1, 2025. Authorities are urgently working to locate them.
Sources indicate that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) might be attempting to implicate these individuals in espionage activities within Pakistan.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a formal statement regarding the incident, confirming that the families notified the embassy about the disappearances. The embassy is engaging with Iranian officials to ensure a swift search and to guarantee the safety of the abducted citizens. Continuous updates are being provided to family members about ongoing efforts.
Further investigations revealed these men were allegedly misled by an agent in Punjab, who promised them migration to Australia via a route passing through Dubai and Iran. This agent, reportedly based in Hoshiarpur, is currently untraceable.
Notably, this case marks the second recent instance of Indian nationals going missing in Iran within the last year, prompting Iranian authorities to caution Indian travelers against illegal agents and human trafficking networks.
