Nepal's renowned Sherpa guide, Kami Rita Sherpa, achieved a historic milestone by summiting Mount Everest for the 31st time on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
At 55 years old, Kami Rita has demonstrated unmatched expertise and endurance over a career spanning more than three decades. His latest ascent to Everest's peak at 8,849 meters was completed around 4 am local time while guiding the Indian Army Adventure Wing Everest Expedition, led by Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi.
Kami Rita's passion for mountaineering began early in life. He started his journey as support staff on Everest expeditions in 1992 and made his first summit in 1994. Since then, he has consistently reached Everest's summit almost every year.
Beyond Everest, Kami Rita has also summited K2 and Mt. Lhotse once each, Manaslu three times, and Cho Oyu eight times, showcasing his vast experience across the Himalayas.
His record-breaking achievement underscores the critical role of Sherpa guides in ensuring the safety and success of climbers attempting some of the world's most challenging peaks. The Sherpa community’s knowledge and resilience continue to be invaluable to high-altitude expeditions.
