OpenAI Partners with UAE to Launch Major AI Data Center, ChatGPT Plus Pricing Unchanged

OpenAI has announced a significant partnership with the United Arab Emirates to develop one of the world’s most advanced artificial intelligence computing facilities. Named Stargate UAE, this project is a joint venture involving prominent technology companies including Oracle, Nvidia, SoftBank, Cisco, and the Emirati AI firm G42.

The new AI data center will be located in Abu Dhabi and is planned as the first phase of a broader five-gigawatt complex. The initial one-gigawatt facility aims to become operational with approximately 200 megawatts by 2026. This initiative is part of OpenAI’s “OpenAI for Countries” strategy, positioning the UAE as a key hub in the global AI infrastructure network.

The cooperation between OpenAI and the UAE was formalized following a diplomatic engagement involving former U.S. President Donald Trump and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed during Trump’s recent visit to the Gulf nation. The comprehensive five-gigawatt data center plan reflects a massive technological investment, with the UAE’s G42 reportedly contributing around $20 billion, split between $8 billion in the Gulf and $10 billion in the U.S., and receiving approval from the U.S. government.

Clarifying ChatGPT Plus Access and Pricing

With this partnership, the UAE is set to become the first country to integrate ChatGPT widely across key sectors such as education, healthcare, energy, and government services—enhancing AI accessibility nationwide.

Currently, the free version of ChatGPT utilizing GPT-3.5 remains accessible to all users in the UAE, while the ChatGPT Plus plan continues to be priced at $20 per month.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the support from Sheikh Tahnoon, who is described as a strong advocate for artificial general intelligence (AGI) and a personal ally.

This major development reinforces the UAE's commitment to becoming a global leader in AI technology, supported by strategic international partnerships and significant investments.
