Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced at the company's annual shareholder meeting that Meta's artificial intelligence assistant has achieved a significant milestone, reaching one billion monthly active users across Meta's family of apps. This rapid user growth follows the April launch of a standalone Meta AI application.
Zuckerberg emphasized that the company's focus for the year is enhancing the Meta AI experience by prioritizing personalization, voice interaction, and entertainment capabilities. He explained that while the tool continues to expand its user base, Meta aims to refine the product before monetizing it.
Looking ahead, Zuckerberg outlined potential revenue models, including the incorporation of paid recommendations and subscription services that would enable users to access increased computing power. This approach aligns with trends established by competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT, which offer subscription tiers for advanced AI usage.
During the shareholder meeting, investors also addressed multiple proposals concerning company governance and social responsibility. Notably, shareholder proposal 8, submitted by JLens (an affiliate of the Anti-Defamation League), requested that Meta publish an annual report on hate speech, including antisemitism, in response to perceived leniencies in content moderation policies.
Preliminary voting results suggest that most board-recommended proposals, including those related to nominee approvals and equity plans, are likely to pass. Conversely, shareholder initiatives opposing Meta's dual-class share structure and other measures appeared unlikely to succeed.
Final voting outcomes will be disclosed within four business days via Meta’s official website and filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
