Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated India's first 9,000 HP electric locomotive engine at the Dahod workshop, a pivotal initiative under the 'Make in India' program. This facility is set to manufacture 120 locomotives annually, with the potential to increase production to 150 based on market demand.
The new locomotive is designed to transport up to 4,600 tonnes of freight, significantly boosting the efficiency of Indian Railways. Modi's visit to Dahod included the unveiling of the locomotive manufacturing shop, where he was joined by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. His two-day tour of Gujarat from May 26-27 involves various developmental initiatives valued at over Rs 24,000 crore.
