Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has advocated for the revival of the Russia-India-China (RIC) troika after India and China reportedly reached a mutual understanding to de-escalate tensions along their border in Ladakh.
Speaking on May 30, 2025, Lavrov emphasized that the recent détente between India and China creates an opportune moment to reinvigorate trilateral dialogue among the three countries. He stated, “Now that, as I understand, an understanding has been reached between India and China on how to calm the situation on the border, it seems to me that the time has come to revive this RIC troika.”
The RIC framework has historically served as a platform for strategic consultation among Russia, India, and China on regional and global issues. Its revival could contribute to stabilizing geopolitical dynamics in Asia amid ongoing border disputes.
