An all-party parliamentary delegation headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is set to visit Panama from May 27 to May 29, 2025. This mission aims to emphasize India's unwavering stance against terrorism in all its forms. The delegation will arrive in Panama following a visit to Guyana.
The three-day engagement will involve discussions with key figures in the Panamanian government, media, the local Indian community, and international friends of India. According to the Indian Embassy in Panama, this trip is vital for reiterating India’s message of unity and solidarity in countering terrorism.
In a press release, the embassy stated: “The parliamentary delegation, led by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, will convey a strong message of zero-tolerance towards terrorism, highlighting India’s commitment to global peace and security.”
The delegation comprises prominent members from various political parties, including Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), Gants Harish Madhur Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena), Tejasvi Surya (BJP), and Taranjit Sandhu, India’s former Ambassador to the U.S.
This visit is part of a broader diplomatic strategy where seven multi-party delegations are touring 33 global capitals. The objective is to inform the international community about the threat posed by Pakistan and to discuss India’s counter-terrorism measures.
Recent tensions between India and Pakistan prompted this outreach. India conducted precision strikes aimed at eradicating terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and its occupied territories on May 7, 2025. In response, Pakistan attempted military assaults on Indian bases. However, hostilities ceased after successful discussions between military officials from both nations on May 10, 2025.
