External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India's firm stance against nuclear blackmail during a convocation ceremony for international students at Parul University on May 30, 2025. He emphasized that India will never succumb to any form of nuclear intimidation.
Addressing the gathered audience, Jaishankar highlighted the necessity of holding accountable those nations and entities that sponsor, nurture, and exploit terrorism. His remarks come in the context of recent Indian military actions targeting terror infrastructure across the region.
In early May, India launched Operation Sindoor in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The operation involved precise airstrikes by the Indian Air Force against nine terrorist camps and hideouts located within Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Key targets included training bases and command centers of terrorist organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in locations like Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad, Sarjal, Sialkot, and Bhimber.
Following Pakistan's retaliatory drone assaults on Indian western states, India's multi-tiered air defense network, supported by domestically developed systems and international technology from Russia and Israel, successfully intercepted nearly all incoming drones.
In a swift and decisive response, Indian armed forces escalated Operation Sindoor on May 10 with additional strikes on six Pakistani military airbases and UAV coordination centers at Chaklala, Murid, Rafiqui, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian. These strikes significantly degraded Pakistan’s air defense capabilities, forcing Islamabad to seek de-escalation within hours.
Jaishankar further articulated India's ethos as a civilizational state that is restoring its prominence on the global stage. Rejecting transactional diplomacy, India continues to prioritize building trustworthy international partnerships based on mutual respect and shared values.
