Panama City: Leading a multi-party delegation to Panama, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor reaffirmed India's unwavering resolve to combat terrorism and stated that the nation will not tolerate further attacks without retaliation. Speaking at an event hosted by the Indian Embassy, Tharoor underscored the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's teachings in the current climate of security threats.
He remarked, "Mahatma Gandhi taught us not only to live without fear but also to firmly stand for our rights and principles. India will not turn the other cheek in the face of terrorism. The country remains resolute in responding decisively to any hostile acts that threaten innocent lives and national security."
Addressing Operation Sindoor, India's recent anti-terror operation, Tharoor strongly criticized the Pakistan Army for holding a funeral for terrorists killed during the action. He pointed out the presence of high-ranking Pakistani military and police officials, including individuals sanctioned by the United Nations, at the funeral. "This contradicts Pakistan’s claims of innocence," he said, emphasizing that mourning terrorists reflects complicity.
Tharoor further highlighted the strategic intent behind the Pahalgam terror attack, which sought to destabilize India and damage the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. Noting Kashmir’s flourishing tourism sector, he shared that Pahalgam attracted more tourists than Aspen, Colorado, underscoring the malicious objectives of such terrorist actions.
Earlier that day, the delegation led by Tharoor met Panama’s President Jose Raul Mulino at the Presidential House, advancing bilateral engagement. The delegation features members from multiple parties including Lok Janshakti Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Telugu Desam Party, BJP, Shiv Sena, and includes former Indian Ambassador to the U.S., Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Tharoor’s remarks reaffirm India’s commitment to combating terrorism resolutely, aligning with national security priorities and international efforts to mitigate threats.
