Two female officers of the U.S. Secret Service have been suspended following a physical altercation outside former President Barack Obama’s residence in Washington, D.C. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of May 21, was captured on video and has since been shared publicly.
Video footage, published by RealClearPolitics reporter Susan Crabtree on social media platform X, shows the two on-duty agents engaged in a physical fight involving pushing and punching. The confrontation took place approximately three kilometers from the White House. During the altercation, one agent is heard on her radio requesting a supervisor, stating, "I need a supervisor out here... immediately before I whoop this girl's ass."
A spokesperson for the Secret Service confirmed the incident, saying, "The U.S. Secret Service is aware of an on-duty altercation that occurred between two Uniformed Division officers at approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 21." An internal investigation is currently ongoing, and the officers have been suspended pending its outcome. The agency reiterated that it maintains a strict code of conduct, and any behavior violating this code is unacceptable.
The motive behind the dispute remains unclear, and the identities of the officers involved have not been disclosed by the agency.
This incident adds to a string of recent misconduct cases involving Secret Service uniformed personnel. In April 2024, Michelle Herczeg, tasked with protecting then-Vice President Kamala Harris, was accused of physically assaulting her supervisor after being relieved of duty amid reports of erratic behavior.
Separately, in 2024, an active-duty Secret Service agent faced allegations of sexual assault against a staffer of Vice President Harris at a hotel in Wisconsin while reportedly intoxicated. Additionally, in 2022, an agent was dismissed after violating security protocols by bringing a romantic partner into the Obamas' Hawaii residence and making inappropriate suggestions about private areas of the home.
The Secret Service has emphasized its commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism within its ranks as the investigation into this latest incident continues.
