World No Tobacco Day Observed with Awareness Initiatives in NTR District
On June 1, 2025, the NTR district marked World No Tobacco Day with a series of awareness activities aimed at discouraging tobacco use among the community.
Officials Lead Anti-Tobacco Pledge and Campaign
NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, accompanied by District Revenue Officer M. Lakshmi Narasimham and District Medical and Health Officer Dr. M. Suhasini, spearheaded the event in Vijayawada. The officials released informational posters highlighting the health risks attributed to tobacco consumption and administered a pledge to participants, urging them to abstain from tobacco use.
The Collector emphasized the severe health hazards associated with smoking and chewing tobacco products, citing increased vulnerability to cancer, lung infections, and various respiratory diseases. He encouraged individuals battling addiction to seek professional counseling and support services.
Focus on Youth Engagement and Educational Outreach
Recognizing the vital role of young people in shaping community health behaviors, the Collector appealed to youth to act as advocates, spreading awareness about the adverse effects of tobacco products within their networks. Ongoing government efforts include awareness programs across colleges aimed at reducing tobacco consumption among younger demographics.
Community Involvement Through Signature Campaign
In parallel, the Bezawada Bar Association (BBA), in partnership with the non-governmental organization Nava Jeevan Bala Bhavan, organized a signature campaign at the local court complex. This event sought to demonstrate collective opposition to tobacco use, with BBA President A.K.
