The Indian delegation in Riyadh accused Pakistan's Army Chief, General Asim Munir, of shaking hands with a US-designated terrorist during a public event, raising serious concerns about Pakistan’s ties to terrorism.
Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi, part of the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, stated, “When Asim Munir was promoted to Field Marshal in Pakistan, a US-designated terrorist named Mohammad Ehsan was seated beside him. Photographs exist showing them shaking hands.” Owaisi further urged for Pakistan to be placed back on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, asserting that this is essential to controlling terror financing linked to terrorist organizations.
Earlier this week, Munir was promoted to Field Marshal, becoming only the second individual in Pakistan’s history to receive this rank. Following his promotion, Munir hosted a 'victory' dinner attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where he presented a photo purportedly showing the Pakistan Army's military operations against India under Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. However, the image was widely mocked and identified as depicting a 2019 Chinese Army drill, prompting Owaisi to criticize the Pakistani leadership for its misleading claims and inability to match India’s military capabilities.
These developments underscore existing tensions between India and Pakistan, with India highlighting evidence of Pakistan's involvement in supporting terrorism. The demand to reinstate Pakistan on the FATF grey list reflects ongoing international concerns about terror financing and cross-border militancy.
