Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir emphatically declared that Pakistan will never concede on water-related issues, describing water as the nation's "red line." Speaking on May 30, 2025, Munir underscored the critical significance of water as a fundamental right for the country's 240 million citizens.
Addressing vice-chancellors, administrators, and prominent educators, Munir condemned India's recent decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack, stressing that Pakistan will not tolerate any Indian dominance in this domain. "Pakistan will never accept Indian hegemony," he asserted.
Additionally, Munir alleged that India supports terrorist groups operating in Pakistan's Balochistan province. He claimed a link between militants involved in regional unrest and Indian backing, highlighting growing concerns over cross-border security challenges.
The exchange of hostilities between India and Pakistan intensified after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in 26 fatalities. India responded with precision strikes under Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan retaliated with attempted attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10, prompting a strong Indian counter-response.
The military confrontations concluded following talks between the directors general of military operations from both countries on May 10, culminating in a mutual agreement to cease offensive actions.
