India Scales Back Evacuations from Iran as Hostilities Ease
In the wake of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has begun winding down the evacuation efforts that were launched during the recent conflict. Operation Sindhu, initiated last week to bring Indian nationals home amid the escalating tensions, is now entering its final phase.
Embassy Updates and Guidance for Indian Nationals
The Embassy has officially closed the contact desk that was set up to register new evacuation requests. However, officials emphasize that the situation remains under close review, and evacuation plans could be reactivated if security risks emerge.
Indians currently planning to travel to Mashhad for evacuation are advised to stay put and monitor official updates carefully. Those already in Mashhad and housed in Embassy-arranged hotels are being asked to move to the Sadr Hotel by June 25, as other hotel bookings will be released shortly.
"The Embassy will maintain accommodations at the Sadr Hotel until check-out on June 26 to provide citizens with time to assess the improving security situation in Iran," stated official communications.
Contact Channels Remain Open
The Embassy will keep communication channels, including a Telegram help channel and dedicated helplines, active for several more days, ensuring any Indian citizen requiring assistance can reach out promptly.
Evacuation Figures and Recent Developments
A special flight carrying 282 Indian nationals arrived in New Delhi early on June 25, bringing the total number of evacuees from Iran to 2,858 under Operation Sindhu. This large-scale evacuation underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens during times of international crisis.
As tensions ease, India’s cautious approach reflects a balance between ensuring safety and adapting to the evolving geopolitical landscape in Iran.
