During a United Nations Security Council meeting on Friday, Russia emphasized that a mere ceasefire would not suffice to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has lasted over three years. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, stressed the importance of addressing the fundamental causes of the crisis to achieve a lasting and sustainable resolution.
Nebenzia revealed that Russia intends to initiate a second round of negotiations scheduled to take place in Istanbul on Monday. This upcoming meeting aims to facilitate an exchange of memorandums outlining both parties' negotiation positions in an effort to find common ground.
The remarks highlight Moscow's stance that resolving the Ukrainian conflict requires more comprehensive dialogue beyond an immediate cessation of hostilities.
