Hyderabad Observes World Blood Donor Day 2025 with Enthusiastic Participation

On June 14, 2025, hospitals across Hyderabad came together to honor World Blood Donor Day, spearheading awareness campaigns, donation camps, and community engagements that underscored the ongoing need for voluntary blood donors.

Awareness Rally and New Facilities at NIMS

The day kicked off at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) with an impactful awareness rally led by Sudhir Kumar, the head of the Blood Donation Centre. Participants spanned medical and nursing students, physiotherapy and paramedical trainees, along with hospital staff from various departments.

Highlighting their commitment, NIMS also unveiled a state-of-the-art cold storage facility capable of preserving up to 1,000 units of blood. This new installation is set to boost the institute's capacity to maintain blood components efficiently and enhance its readiness for emergencies.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma Champions Voluntary Donation

At Raj Bhavan, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who also serves as president of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Telangana, inaugurated a voluntary blood donation camp in the community hall.

Addressing donors and volunteers, the Governor emphasized the sacred nature of blood donation, highlighting its life-altering impact on families during medical crises. He praised the roles of Red Cross volunteers, corporate CSR partners, and institutional leaders in fostering a culture of safe and voluntary donation.

To acknowledge such dedication, certificates were presented to donors, and NGOs along with institutional representatives were honored for their significant contributions to this humanitarian cause.

Kamineni Hospitals Focuses on Thalassemia Support

Elsewhere, Kamineni Hospitals at LB Nagar hosted a large-scale blood donation camp, with special attention toward children battling Thalassemia. More than 100 donors, including doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, lent their support to the initiative.

The hospital recognized standout volunteer Dayakar Reddy, who has impressively donated blood over 100 times, celebrating his unwavering commitment with a felicitation.

Adding an expert voice to the day’s events, Dr. B. Krupan Kumar, senior consultant physician at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda, conveyed a powerful public message:
