PM Modi Leads 11th International Day of Yoga in Visakhapatnam
On June 21, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the celebrations of the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY-2025) on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. Addressing a vast assembly, the Prime Minister emphasized yoga’s potential to unite a world grappling with widespread conflicts and unrest.
Yoga: A Path from Conflict to Cooperation
In a stirring message, Mr. Modi highlighted that the world is currently facing various challenges that disrupt harmony. Against this backdrop, he proposed yoga as a beacon of peace and a bridge towards global cooperation. Calling on nations worldwide, he urged integrating yoga into everyday life and public policies, envisioning a future where inner peace shapes global governance.
The Theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”
This year’s theme beautifully captures the interconnectedness of our planet’s wellbeing. Modi pointed out that human health is intricately linked to the health of soil, water bodies, animals, and plants. Yoga, he said, teaches us that we are inseparable from nature, evolving from caring for oneself to embracing our shared environment—a philosophy that reflects India’s inherent values of service and coexistence.
Scientific Backing and Growing Reach of Yoga
The Prime Minister applauded ongoing scientific research in yoga’s therapeutic benefits. Notably, institutions like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi are demonstrating yoga’s positive impact on cardiac, neurological conditions, women’s health, and mental wellbeing.
Through initiatives like the National Ayush Mission and support from digital technology, yoga and wellness messages are spreading across India. With over 6.5 lakh trained volunteers certified by the Yoga Certification Board and recognition granted to more than 130 institutions, yoga’s reach is expanding considerably.
Moreover, a 10-day yoga module has been incorporated into medical college curricula to foster holistic wellness, and trained instructors are being deployed in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs nationwide to promote health at the community level.
Tackling Global Health Challenges Through Yoga
Addressing the growing concern of obesity, Modi recalled his earlier call to reduce daily oil consumption by 10%. Combining healthier eating habits with regular yoga practice, he urged people to adopt this “fitness mantra” as a simple yet effective way to enhance wellbeing.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister called on everyone to transform “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” from a theme into a universal commitment for a healthier, more harmonious world.
Mass Participation and Records Set in Visakhapatnam
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu lauded the overwhelming public enthusiasm. The day prior, over 22,122 tribal students set a Guinness World Record by performing a mass Surya Namaskar session in Visakhapatnam as part of the lead-up to the IDY celebrations.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan also addressed the gathering, underscoring the collective spirit behind these celebrations.
The International Day of Yoga continues to inspire global unity by promoting health, peace, and environmental harmony through the ancient practice of yoga.
