Riga, Latvia: Leading an all-party delegation, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi emphasized India's unwavering unity following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Addressing the Indian diaspora in Latvia, she stated that the attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives, could not divide the nation.
Kanimozhi recalled the tragic event, where innocent tourists were targeted with the intent to sow discord among Indians based on their faith. However, she highlighted how the people of Kashmir united in protest against Pakistan, sending a clear message that India remains indivisible.
"When our Indian tourists were attacked and we lost 26 innocent lives in front of their families and loved ones, the perpetrators challenged our unity by questioning our faith. But the collective response, especially from Kashmiris, showed that nothing will divide us anymore," said Kanimozhi.
Former Indian Ambassador to the European Union, Manjeev Singh Puri, who is also part of the delegation, shared insights on their interaction with Latvian parliamentarians. He noted that Latvia strongly condemns terrorism and is preparing to take a seat on the United Nations Security Council next year. The discussions underscored the importance of international cooperation against terror threats and recognized India's growing role on the global stage.
Puri remarked, "Latvia recognizes India as a nation with significant global standing, attracting increased interest and partnerships from countries worldwide."
At a community event in Riga, the delegation also attended the screening of a short film on Operation Sindoor, which honored the Indian Armed Forces and their sacrifices. Kanimozhi praised the emotional tribute and the solidarity shown by the Indian community abroad.
"It was heartening to witness the Indian community come together to reaffirm their support for India and pay tribute to our armed forces' sacrifices," Kanimozhi stated.
The delegation comprises members from diverse political backgrounds, including Rajeev Rai (Samajwadi Party), Mian Altaf Ahmad (Jammu and Kashmir National Conference), Brijesh Chowta (BJP), Prem Chand Gupta (Rashtriya Janata Dal), Ashok Kumar Mittal (Aam Aadmi Party), and former diplomats Manjeev S. Puri and Jawed Ashraf.
