On May 30, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large public gathering in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor and underscoring the power of India's indigenous weaponry. The Prime Minister emphasized that the operation, which involved deep incursions into enemy territory and devastating missile strikes, is ongoing and showcased the strength of the Make in India initiative.
Modi recalled the tragic Pahalgam massacre where 26 individuals, including Kanpur businessman Shubham Dwivedi, lost their lives, framing Operation Sindoor as a direct response to such acts of terrorism. He reiterated India's firm stance against terrorism and declared that the country will no longer be intimidated by nuclear threats or tolerate the patronage of terrorism by any state or non-state actors.
Highlighting the advancements achieved through Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), the Prime Minister pointed to the operational success of the BrahMos missile and other indigenous weapons. He praised the Indian armed forces for their courage and precision, stating that these forces forced adversaries to seek a halt to the conflict.
Turning to Kanpur's strategic importance, Modi noted the city's pivotal role in the defense manufacturing sector, with several ordnance factories transformed into modern enterprises. He pointed out that the production of AK-203 rifles is underway in Amethi and declared Uttar Pradesh an emerging hub for BrahMos missile production.
The Prime Minister outlined plans for extensive development in Kanpur, including infrastructure projects and power generation plants, which collectively represent investments exceeding ₹47,600 crore. Among the initiatives are upgrades to Kanpur Metro and Central Railway Station, and large-scale power generation units aimed at enhancing the state's energy self-sufficiency.
Modi criticized previous state governments for neglecting industrial growth, leading to the migration of industries away from Kanpur. He committed to reversing this trend by promoting employment, investments, and overall industrial revitalization through support for sectors such as MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises).
Further, the Prime Minister highlighted welfare schemes, including the distribution of Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards for elderly healthcare, reflecting the government's dedication to social upliftment alongside economic growth.
He also announced measures to boost the MSME sector through revised lending limits and credit schemes, signaling strengthened financial support for small businesses and middle-class families benefiting from tax relief.
Concluding his address, Narendra Modi emphasized unwavering commitment to elevating Uttar Pradesh and India to new developmental heights, ensuring robust defense capabilities, industrial expansion, and improved public infrastructure.
