Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Zagreb on Tuesday, marking an unprecedented milestone as the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Croatia. Upon arrival, he was greeted personally by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, symbolizing a deepening partnership between the two nations.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, PM Modi emphasized the significance of his visit to a valued European ally, highlighting the warm reception he received at the airport.
“This is a special visit, the first ever by an Indian Prime Minister to a valued European partner. I am grateful to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković for the special gesture of welcoming me at the airport.”
Engaging with the Indian Diaspora and Cultural Exchange
Following his arrival, PM Modi met with members of the Indian diaspora at a hotel in Zagreb, engaging warmly as part of the final leg of his three-nation tour. The gathering was enlivened by a captivating Kathak performance, showcasing India’s classical dance heritage and connecting cultural ties between India and Croatia.
Building on a Trip Across Cyprus, Canada, and Now Croatia
The Croatian visit succeeds earlier stops in Cyprus and Canada, where PM Modi participated in the G7 Summit. At the summit, he took part in key discussions addressing global challenges, underscoring India’s unwavering commitment to peace, prosperity, and sustainability.
Reflecting on the Canada visit, PM Modi described it as highly productive, acknowledging the fruitful exchanges that took place during the summit discussions.

During his stay in Croatia, PM Modi is scheduled to hold in-depth talks with Prime Minister Plenković and President Zoran Milanović. The agenda will spotlight enhancing cooperation across trade, technology, culture, and other sectors, aiming to set a new trajectory for India-Croatia relations.
This visit not only highlights a strengthening bilateral bond but also reinforces India’s broader strategy to forge closer ties with European nations.
Championing Energy Security and Sustainability on the Global Stage
At the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, PM Modi addressed critical global issues, particularly energy security, describing it as a pressing challenge for future generations. He detailed India’s guiding principles for energy — availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability — underscoring the nation's inclusive growth model.
Further, PM Modi spotlighted India’s leadership in sustainability initiatives, referencing global efforts such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the One Sun-One World-One Grid program. He called on the international community to intensify collaboration and support for these transformative ventures.
