Prime Minister Commemorates World Environment Day with Tree Plantation
On Thursday, the Prime Minister marked World Environment Day by planting a Sindoor sapling at his official residence, initiating a significant plantation drive in the national capital. This initiative forms part of the Centre's Aravalli Green Wall Project, a major reforestation effort aimed at restoring the 700-kilometer Aravalli mountain range that spans from Delhi to Gujarat.
Symbolism Behind the Sindoor Sapling
The Sindoor sapling was presented to the Prime Minister by a courageous group of women during his recent visit to Kutch, Gujarat. These women are recognized for their invaluable contribution during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, where they aided the Army in rebuilding an airfield under challenging circumstances.
In a social media post reflecting on his Gujarat visit, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Sindoor sapling symbolizes bravery and the inspirational role of women across the country.
Expansion of Plantation Drive Across Aravalli States
Furthering the environmental campaign, the Prime Minister planted the sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in New Delhi. The Chief Ministers of the four states encompassing the Aravalli range – Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat – actively participated by planting trees in their respective districts.
This coordinated effort aims to enhance green cover, improve biodiversity, and combat environmental degradation along the Aravalli hills.
Key Highlights:
- 700 km Aravalli mountain range targeted for reforestation.
- Collaborative participation from governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
- Symbolic planting of Sindoor tree linked to women’s bravery during the 1971 war.
