World Environment Day Commemorated with Shashwat Bharat Setu Expo
On June 5, 2025, the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru marked World Environment Day by inaugurating the Shashwat Bharat Setu exhibition. This innovative expo aims to educate and empower communities on adopting sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyles.
The expo was officially opened by Mysuru Member of Parliament, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar. Developed by The Eco Factory Foundation (TEFF) Pune, the mobile exhibition offers an immersive experience designed to inspire sustainable living. All exhibits are presented in Kannada to ensure accessibility to the local population.
Focus on Sustainability and National Missions
The Shashwat Bharat Setu—Winning Net Zero exhibit is recognized as the first of its kind mobile sustainability awareness center. It aligns with critical national initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and international frameworks like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The exhibition highlights key themes including:
- Converting waste into wealth through recycling and reuse
- Water management and conservation
- Energy efficiency and reduction of carbon footprints
- The importance of adopting a circular economy
- Sustainability practices applicable across rural, urban, and industrial sectors
- Individual roles in achieving net zero emissions
Community Engagement and Livelihood Opportunities
In addition to fostering environmental awareness, the expo emphasizes sustainable solutions that benefit both the planet and the local economy. By demonstrating how biodegradable waste and plastic recycling can be utilized, it provides pathways for community-driven livelihood opportunities.
The exhibition is open to school and college students daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until June 8, with public access available on June 7 and 8.
